Daily Delights
Tiny Treasures Excavated
In mid-December, we moved into a 1000 square-foot house with a 2-car garage. For the past 4 years, our home has been a 200 square foot tiny house. The previous three or four years were on a sailboat. For the several days, we had no furniture.
I baked cookies every day for the first week, reveling in the use of my beloved stand mixer, in storage for many years.
I have space to unroll my yoga mat and s t r e t c h.
Last week I bought 6 used beige dining chairs and spent an evening reupholstering them in purple. I found a bargain on a comfy pull-out couch, so I can invite people to stay. Come visit!
Most of my time since the move has been occupied with unpacking and household projects, but I look forward to settling into an art-making routine.
I have a giant desk and wall space to hang some art. Small treasures have come out of storage. Many of them are currently cluttering up my desk, but that’s okay. It’s huge! Even with all the stuff, I still have plenty of desk real estate.
I started 2026 drawing one of my treasures and/or daily delights each morning, inspired by Ross Gay’s The Book of Delights. It occurs to me now that these are also some of my githerments.
Left to right, from the top:
James’s great aunt Helen’s glass turtle, a tiny buttered toast Squishable, fried eggs for breakfast, morning yoga, the cat that clung to a giant brandy snifter on my grandmother’s coffee table when I was a kid, a Squishable mobula ray on a quilt made years ago by my sister-in-law, a wood sculpture made by an old friend, my new desk, nesting dolls from my mom, snickerdoodles, a crystal sent by a friend during my cancer treatment, my stand mixer, rolling out a pie crust, and a beautiful handmade wooden box from Artwood in Bellingham (another gift from James).
This morning I painted the view from our front window.

Beautifully put! So glad to see you've managed to keep some special things through the years. Like old friends popping by. 😃💕
